Digital Pressure Gauge Model 2107 & 2108
Application:
Avionics
Challenge:
A large international avionics equipment manufacturer needs to determine the sensitivity of their anaerobic capsules used in the manufacture of altimeters, air speed indicators, and rate of climb meters. A fast, economical and accurate way of determining the sensitivity of the capsule in a production environment was required. The manufacturer wanted to minimize the amount of retraining required, but improve the quality of the process.

Solution:
It was determined that the test required applying pressure to the capsule and monitoring how it expands. The deflection of the capsule was measured with a laser rangefinder and displayed on a meter. A means of applying the pressure and accurately determining its value was required. This manufacturer had a sizable investment in manually operated pressure regulators and had trained their personnel to use these in the tests. For that reason they wanted to control the pressures by setting the regulators manually. An accurate way of measuring the pressure in both pressure units (inHg, mbars, KPa) and in the units of altitude and airspeed would minimize the number of computational errors. The Mensor 2107 Digital Airspeed Indicator and the Mensor 2108 Digital Altimeter were chosen. These met the cost and accuracy requirements and minimized the opportunity for errors in the process.
