Custom System including PCS400 and multiple DPTs

Application:

Jet Engine Testing

Challenge:

A large military installation tasked with jet engine testing was utilizing a panel of dial gauges to calibrate and monitor pressure sensors in the test cell. They were interested in a self contained solution with higher accuracy that could be placed in an operating test cell and be monitored from the control center.

Solution:

Mensor provided a mobile cart with a large digital display that allowed the sensors to be calibrated in-situ. The cart had bottled air and vacuum pump included, single 1000 psi range 0.025 % fs PCS400, and 10 different range 0.010% fs accuracy DPTs, pneumatic switching manifold, and PC. Large rubber wheels allowed the cart to traverse the uneven elevations of the plant. The PCS400 was used as a precision pressure generator. The actual calibration data were derived from ten Mensor Digital Pressure Transducers. A computer controlled the PCS400, the vacuum pump and selected and read the actual pressures from the DPTs. Individual pressure ports were provided for each range. Measurements were displayed on an oversized 20 character vacuum fluorescent display. Both gauge, bi-directional and absolute ranges were active in the system. Wherever possible, the barometric reference transducer was used to emulate gauge or absolute readings. Calibration of the system was limited to the DPTs. By correcting the PCS400 readings to that of the DPTs, no calibration or removal of the PCS400 was required.
