Mensor LP breaks ground in San Marcos

Originally published in the Austin Business Journal

Mensor LP, a pressure and temperature calibration device manufacturer, has broken ground on a new 45,000 square-foot building that may replace its existing headquarters.

The $7.5 million investment is expected to create 40 jobs through the next 10 years. The Greater San Marcos Partnership helped the company to select the site for the expansion, according to a release from partnership. The purchase price for the land was not disclosed.

As part of the deal, the city of San Marcos waived a requirement for the company to construct a sidewalk that would have cost an estimated $21,600 as part of the deal. There were no other financial incentives, according to a spokesperson for the San Marcos Partnership.

Mensor owns an adjacent 26,000-square-foot facility, which may be demolished, according to a release. The company employs 70 at its 201 Barnes Dr. location.

The decision to expand to the next-door property was made after examining around 15 properties throughout the community, Mensor President Lee Graham said in a statement. Mensor has been based in San Marcos since 1978 and was founded in 1969.

The new facility is expected to open 10 months from now in the fall of 2014.
